1933 … Soon after Adolf Hitler became chancellor, the first concentration camp in Germany opened at Dachau, where at least 32,000 people would die from disease, malnutrition, physical oppression, and execution.
1915 … The Canadian Expeditionary Force takes part in the Battle of Neuve-Chapelle, during the First World War. This is the first real offensive in which Canadians participate. About 100 Canadians lose their lives in the engagement.
