A new Tier 2 Junior ‘A’ hockey league has been established.
The Vegreville Vipers, Hinton Timberwolves, Cold Lake Aeros, Barrhead Bombers, Edmonton Eagles, and Vernal Oilers have joined the Can-Am Junior Hockey League as founding teams and the move to the new league is effective immediately.
Vipers GM Bryan Brown says the formation of the new league comes at a time when the existing teams felt a change in leadership and direction was needed. The founding clubs wish to thank the Western States Hockey League for its past efforts and dedication to the sport of hockey.
Brown says the schedule for the remainder of the season for the 5 Canadian teams and 1 United States team will remain unchanged.
Brown says after an extended holiday break, the Vegreville Vipers will return to action in the new Can-Am Junior Hockey League later this month.
The first Vipers game of 2022 against Vernal can heard on Country 106 this Saturday, January 15th at 7:45pm.
Brown notes for the remainder of the 2021-2022 season, the teams will govern themselves and the search for a league commissioner will begin after the conclusion of the season. It is expected that other teams will be announced after the vetting process is complete.
The founding teams for the Can-Am Junior Hockey League would like to thank the players, parents, fans, volunteers and staff members for their continuing support while the transition continues.
