Vegreville RCMP are reminding residents to drive safe and sober ahead of the Canada Day holiday ...

According to RCMP, throughout the Canada Day long weekend in 2019 there were four reported fatalities due to motor vehicle collisions in Alberta RCMP jurisdictions.

Cpl. Ray Stack with the Vegreville RCMP Detachment says throughout his career he’s noticed different times of the year where impaired driving seems to spike, including the Christmas season and summertime.

Stack says this time of the year is very popular for those seeking to head out camping or to the lake.

He encourages drivers who may be towing boats or R.V.s to ensure everything is fully fastened and properly secured, including trailer lights.

Before towing, RCMP advice a thorough check of the hitch, hook, wheels and brakes as well as tires to ensure everything is properly secured and in good working order.

Stack says there’s increased traffic volume on Alberta's highways during the summer months and notes that highway safety is everyone’s responsibility.
