Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Alberta Surpasses 1000

Alberta reported 107 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday afternoon, for a total of 1,075 ...

Alberta also reported five additional deaths on Friday, bringing that total to 18.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, says one of those deaths was a 20-year-old woman. She says young people also need to take measures to avoid COVID-19.

Meantime, Premier Jason Kenney says those numbers will increase but he wants to reassure Albertans that the province is better prepared than most jurisdictions to deal with the pandemic.

Here in the Central Zone, there were three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total to 62.

The Vegreville/Minburn County region remains at two confirmed cases.

Tofield and the Vermilion River County Region also each have two confirmed cases.

There are still zero reported cases in Lamont County, the County of Two Hills and Viking.

Strathcona County, excluding Sherwood Park, remained at six confirmed cases while the number of case Sherwood Park continues to rise, up from 15 to 17.
