Alberta is shifting priorities for asymptomatic testing of COVID-19 to reduce wait times.
The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer says testing is no longer recommended for those with no symptoms and no suspected exposure to the novel coronavirus.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw says more testing for symptomatic cases will be required as we enter into influenza season.
Hinshaw says voluntary asymptomatic tests will continue for priority groups including school staff, health-care workers, residents and staff in congregate settings and the homeless.
The province reported 146 new infections yesterday and 1,483 active cases.
Close to home, the County of Minburn – including Vegreville region is now reporting two ‘active’ cases – down one from Thursday’s update.
Meantime, the County of Two Hills continues to report five ‘active’ cases, Lamont County is reporting two ‘active’ cases and the County of St. Paul is now reporting three ‘active’ cases, up one from Thursday’s update.
Beaver County and the County of Vermilion River continue to report zero ‘active’ cases.
Strathcona County, excluding Sherwood Park, is reporting one ‘active’ case while Sherwood Park is reporting 16.
To date, of the 16,274 cases of the virus, 14,573 have been deemed recovered.
