Vegreville's Val in St. Albert in Hopes of Earning Scotties Berth

For Albertans, the Road to the Scotties goes through St. Albert this year.

The Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts gets underway today at the St. Albert Curling Club.

Event Co-Chair Nicole Bellamy says the Ladies Provincial Playdowns Event has come a long way since the last time it was held in the city of St. Albert.

Vegreville’s Val Sweeting along with Lead Rachel Brown, Second Dana Ferguson and Third Lori Olson-Johns, makeup one of 12 rinks taking part in the event in the hopes of punching a ticket to the 2017 National Scotties Tournament of Hearts – which this year will be held in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Bellamy says tickets are available for any ‘Sweeting Supporters’ hoping to take in the action live in person.

Team Sweeting fell to Calgary’s Chelsea Carey’s Rink in the Championship Final of last year’s Alberta Scotties – which, after going on to win it all, has already clinched a spot at the National Tournament as Team Canada.

Team Sweeting officially hits the sheets tonight at 6:30.
