Vegreville's Melenka Ready to Represent Her Country

The Parapan America Games officially get underway in Lima, Peru on Friday and Vegreville will be represented at the international sporting event ...

Sarah Melenka, along with the rest of Team Canada’s Sitting Volleyball Team, will take to the court at the games.

Melenka and Team Canada will compete against three other Sitting Volleyball Squads in Lima including Team USA, Brazil and host Peru and depending how they finish at the event, could qualify for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

Team Canada’s first contest will be on Saturday, August 24th versus Brazil.

According to the World Para Volleyball Organization, Canada is ranked 5th in the World while Brazil is ranked 3rd.

Preliminary play continues through to Monday, August 26th before the Semi-Finals on Tuesday, August 27th.

The Medal Games are scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th.
