Two Vegreville residents are back home after a 72 Hours of Straight Baseball.

Roman Zubritsky and Dean Brooks were on the field in Edmonton as, unofficially, a new record for the world’s longest baseball game was set.

Zubritsky explains what lead to him playing the game.

He also explains what kept him on the field for 237 innings.

When the marathon was over, the scoreboard saw Team Red beating Team Black 378 to 269 and Zubritsky admits it was a grueling and physically demanding event.

Zurbritsky, who also suffered an injury to his hand, adds the weather also played a factor.

In the end, the perseverance of the 56 players and countless volunteers paid off as initial reports indicate that $250,000 was raised for the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.
