Vegreville & St. Paul represented on Team Northeast as Alberta Cup gets underway

St. Paul's Kurtis Labant will lace 'em up for Team Northeast on a roster assembled, in part, by Vegreville's Phil Rowe.

The best young hockey players from around the region will be in Canmore over the next few days to compete against the best from around the province in the Alberta Cup.

Vegreville’s Phil Rowe is the Director of Operations for Team Northeast and oversaw the Team’s selection camp held in Vegreville in March.

He explains what exactly defines the ‘North East Region’.

Rowe says while the bulk of the roster is made up of players from Lloydminster and Sherwood Park, there was one young man from St. Paul who impressed enough to make this year’s roster.

He says now that team is formed one of the biggest challenges for hockey operations personnel is, in a short window, getting the players to come together as a team.

The team gets one practice today in Canmore before the Round Robin Tournament starts tomorrow with an afternoon tilt versus Team Edmonton Blue.
