The Vegreville Rangers drop decision to Cold Lake while the Two Hills Longhorns improved to 2-0 ...

Five Goals wasn’t enough for the Vegreville Rangers on Saturday.

Despite a pair of goals from Jared Steinbach, along with singles from Austin Halliday, Alex Kitz and Ryan Butler the Rangers fell 8-5 to the Cold Lake Ice in their first contest after a two-week layoff.

The Rangers are back on home ice this weekend.

On Friday, they’ll welcome the St. Paul Canadiens to town before hosting Onion Lake on for a Sunday matinee.

The Rangers are 3-5-and-1 on the season and sit 10th in the N.E.A.J.H.L. standings.

Meantime, the Two Hills Longhorns improved to 2 and 0 in the SaskAlta Senior Hockey League on Saturday.

Grayson Zaprovich scored the winner with under three minutes remaining, and added a pair of assists, helping the Longhorns sneak past the Vermilion Rock 7-6.

Two Hills Player / Manager Evan Warawa talks about the addition of Zaprovich to this year’s Longhorns’ roster.

Another former Ranger played a key role in Saturday’s win as Zak Lang scored a pair and added two assists for the Longhorns.

Two Hills will make their long-awaited home debut this season when they welcome the Maidstone Jets on Saturday.
