Plenty of 'Curling Conversation' in Vegreville

Vegreville's Val won her first draw at Alberta Scotties yesterday while the Heather Curling Club was host to the first 'Farmer's Bonspiel' in recent memory ...

Vegreville’s Val is on the right track in her bid for a berth in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines, Ontario this year.

Team Sweeting downed Edmonton’s Holly Baird 7-3 in their first draw yesterday at the Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts underway this week in St. Albert.

Up next for Val along with Third Lori Olson-Johns, Second Dana Ferguson and Lead Rachel Brown, is a morning matchup with Calgary’s Geri-Lynn Ramsay who yesterday snuck past Fairview’s Trisha James 7-6 to also improve to 1 and oh at the event.

The Alberta Provincial Playdown Event runs through until Championship Sunday with the winning rink earning the right to represent Alberta at the Scotties in February.

In Curling Closer to Home … The Heather Curling Club in Vegreville played host to the revival of a ‘Farmers Bonspiel’ yesterday.

Brad Morrow, one of the event of organizers, says - this year especially - area Farmers needed to get out and have a little fun.

The Farmers Bonspiel was a one day event, featuring 8 Teams playing in a pair of 6 end games with no scores kept.

Morrow says organizers are hoping to grow the event next year.
