Marty Maxwell of Camrose managed to take care of business in Patricia, Alberta during the three-day event – winning the Carts Overall with a 179.51 and cementing an Overall Season Standings Carts Championship in the process.
Maxwell says his season turned a corner late in the year, pointing to Vegreville as the show he began to make a serious chase for top spot.
Maxwell finished with a 1401 in the Overall Season Standings, 20 points up on Kelsey, Alberta’s Chester Blatz who finished in the second place.
He credits Blatz for pushing the chase for top spot all the way until the final heat of the final race of the year.
Maxwell notes that after over three-decades of racing, winning his first Overall Season Standings Championship feels 'great'.
Meantime in the Wagons, Mike Cooke of Lloydminster didn’t fare as well as Maxwell in Patricia, finishing 5th in the Show’s Overall – but – it was enough to keep Fort Saskatchewan’s Mike Motowylo and Daysland’s Adam Waldner at bay in the chase for the Overall Season Championship.
Cooke was crowned the 2017 Wagons Champ with a 1254.50, 71.5 points up on second place Motowylo and 98 points up on third place Waldner.
