Vegreville RCMP Issues 'Keys In Vehicles' Reminder

The weather is cooling down and while most have already begun the annual tradition of starting their vehicles for a quick warm up, RCMP are warning Albertans not to leave their keys behind when doing so ...

According to police, in 2018, 25% of vehicles reported stolen in Alberta had their keys left inside while 10% were left running.

Corporal Ray Stack with the Vegreville RCMP Detachment says it’s a common occurrence as the weather starts to cool off.

Stack also reminds motorist and their passengers not to leave valuables in vehicles, especially in plain sight.

From January to July of 2019, there were 5953 vehicles reported stolen in Alberta while in that same time period there were 6736 reported cases of property stolen from vehicles.
