Traffic Stop Results In Gun & Drug Charges

A Viking RCMP traffic stop has led to firearm and drug charges ...

According to Police, on June 12th at around 6:30 PM, RCMP members were conducting a traffic enforcement along Highway 14 near Kinsella, stopping a white Ford F-350 for expired registration.

During the traffic stop, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen from Edmonton and that the male driver was using a different plate while further investigation found an improperly stored rifle in the vehicle along with approximately 175 grams of cocaine, deemed by police to have a street value of about $10,000.

28 year old Tyler Dorland of Wainwright has been charged with numerous offences including possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Dorland was remanded in custody and will appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on Monday, June 17th.
