Vegreville and Mundare's School Resource Officer Program is reaching the end of it's pilot period, and it's continuation is in question
Vegreville and Mundare's School Resource Officer program is reaching the end of it's pilot period, and it's continuation is in question. The program, launched in 2015, is currently funded by four stake holders; the towns of Vegreville and Mundare, and the Elk Island Public and Elk Island Catholic School Boards for a total cost of just over $117,500.
Community Services Director for the Town of Vegreville, Laurie Evans, says the program's continuation beyond 2018 will come down to funding.
Evans notes that the current funding model has the Town of Vegreville covering $96,500, with the three other stakeholders contributing a total of $21,000. In a letter to council, Mundare's Town Council sent notification they had agreed to increase their funding for the next three years, should the program continue.
