Penalty for Distracted Driving in Alberta Increases

Distracted Driving has more consequences in Alberta

We're now into the second week of January, and the RCMP are enforcing an increased penalty for distracted driving.

In addition to the $287 fine for distracted driving already in place, those caught will also see three demerit points on their record.

The change was made due to a seemingly universal dismissal by drivers for the consequences if caught.

Cst. Harsulla of the Vegreville detachment, says that while on a seat belt enforcement blitz in the town, they actually handed out three times as many distracted driving tickets.

Distracted driving can include using a G.P.S., putting on makeup, and grooming.
