Mandatory Driving Training Could Impact Classrooms, Transportation

The Provincial Government will be introducing Mandatory Entry Level Training for bus drivers this July, an enhanced driver training program, and school boards are going to feel the pinch

The Provincial Government will be introducing Mandatory Entry Level Training for bus drivers this July, an enhanced driver training program, and school boards are going to feel the pinch.

Board Chair for Elk Island Public School Division, Trina Boymook, says the result may be that there are fewer bus drivers province-wide, meaning a cut to bus routes, and longer bus rides for students.

Boymook says that they anticipate the additional training costs at $77,000 a year for the Board, and are urging the Provincial Government to provide the funding to cover the full cost of the program.
