Local Man Mourned After Avalanche

Vegreville is among the towns mourning the loss of one of it's own after an avalanche in British Columbia on Friday

Vegreville is among several grieving Central Alberta communities after an avalanche in B.C. claimed the life of a prominent local businessman.

Vincent Loewen of Vegreville was one of the Alberta snowmobilers killed near McBride, British Columbia on Friday when the avalanche struck around 1:30 p.m. in the Renshaw area.

A total of 17 people were either partially or completely buried in the slide while five Central Alberta residents did not survive including Loewen, Tony Greenwood from Grande Prairie County, Ricky Robinson from Spruce Grove, Todd Chisholm from St. Albert and John Garley from Stony Plain.

Vincent Loewen was 52 years old.
