Elk Island Public Schools will no longer have to drop the word "Public" from it's name
Elk Island Public Schools will get to keep the word "Public" in it's name.
The new Education Act, which came into effect on Sept. 1, 2019, requires school divisions throughout the province to remove the word "public" from their official names.
Board Chair for Elk Island Public Schools, Trina Boymook, says they approached Education Minister Adriana LaGrange with a request to keep the status quo.
The order as part of the New Education Act took E.I.P.S. and many other school divisions completely by surprise.
